Impact Law for Social Justice

Case Study: Impact Law for Social Justice

Included: Web design, SEO

Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of working with the team of strategic litigation superstars that make up Impact Law for Social Justice — a team of lawyers, academics and journalists who provide consultancy, expertise and workshops on helping NGOs, movements and campaigns to use the law for social change.

Before I was asked to work on the site, I must admit that I wasn’t very familiar with what strategic litigation was all about. After a quick google search, I learned that it is synonymous with impact litigation — hence the name! It’s the practice of bringing lawsuits intended to effect societal change. Strategic litigation cases may be class action lawsuits or individual claims with broader significance.

Sounds pretty scary! But that’s where Impact Law for Social Justice come in. After Shauneen Lambe, founder of Just for Kids Law, changed the national law four times in four years, she was offered an opportunity to evaluate her work with an academic -Dr Lisa Vanhalla. Through this process they discovered the Impact framework and realised that it could be use more broadly.

Thus, the Impact website had to be accessible. We worked with my collaborator, Zuhura Plummer and graphic designer, Laura Hart, to come up with visual accompaniments to go with the framework. Using the graphics and colour scheme, we then build a well-structured, welcoming site to explain the concept as clearly as possible.
